About Mel
Melissa Littles is a published author, blogger and advocate for law enforcement officers and their families. Being compelled by the rising number of officer deaths by repeat, convicted felons, Melissa left her over twenty year career working as a certified paralegal in high conflict family law to focus on officer advocacy, legislative change for the protection of officers and officer family awareness and support.
Melissa began publishing blog articles in 2009 in an attempt to promote awareness of the realities faced by law enforcement officers in a world in which the promotion of collective hatred of officers is growing. It became clear rather quickly, her readers wanted more. The Police Wife Life was created as a way to house her writings. Her blog article, "Selfish is Not an Option" has been viewed and shared on social media over a million times and has become a staple for law enforcement spouses in academy classes across the country. In addition to blogging for her own organization, The Police Wife Life, LLC, Melissa is also a regular blogger for Uniform Stories and Safe Call Now and has been featured on LiftBump, TheMighty and LoveWhatMatters.
In addition to her legislative efforts and advocacy, Melissa is a motivational speaker and workshop presenter who focuses on the realities faced by law enforcement officers and the crucial need for understanding and supportive families and a unified home front. Through her experience in high conflict family law, Melissa brings forth critical skills to be used in open communication, collective cooperation and mutual respect needed to make marriages last in a life of law enforcement. In January, 2016 Melissa expanded her partnership with Safe Call Now as a member of the Law Enforcement Family Crisis Support Team, which will include teaching workshops to law enforcement families across the country.
Melissa's first book, Bullets in the Washing Machine, was published in 2011 and has sold over 160,000 copies. Bullets in the Washing machine is a compilation of true stories of law enforcement families across the country which focuses on the realities of life in law enforcement, the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of focusing on making the most of every day, as there are no guarantees of tomorrow. Bullets is available on Amazon in paperback and on Lulu in paperback and e-book format. Melissa's second book, Treadmill Perspectives, Thoughts in Motion, which is a lighter take on her personal family and life in law enforcement, is available on Lulu.com in paperback and e-book format.
Melissa Littles is married to Sergeant Bervis Littles, an 18 year veteran officer with the Edmond Police Department in Oklahoma. Sergeant Littles is a suicide prevention officer and QPR instructor, hostage negotiator, FTO, LEDT instructor and SRO. They have children ranging in age from 23 years of age, to 8 years old.
